In contrast to Eastern approaches, which focus on the body as a whole in a holistic perspective, Western massage philosophies' operate by breaking down mental barriers in order for patients' minds to be relaxed. The clients' healing and relaxing of specific muscle groups is emphasized within the Western approach to massage therapy, as well.
Many people use the term "Eastern philosophy" as a replacement for more descriptive terms for holistic or alternative therapies. But what does it mean to be Eastern? It's difficult, if not impossible to define one single characteristic that all cultures agree upon when referring their respective medicinal practices. Some might say China is synonymous with Asia while others will point out India’s position within this region too- yet still there are those who contest neither of these countries can claim ownership over traditional Chinese healthcare. The truth lies somewhere in between.
Being
The practice of medicine, in general, is becoming more holistic as Eastern and Western approaches diverge. With the goal to restore balance, preventative treatments such as acupuncture and bodywork vs. prescription drugs and clinical treatments are used in partnership to treat people in this intersecting landscape of optimizing and elevating well-Being.
Western medicine is reactive care that treats disease and other ailments as they physically present themselves after manifestation of imbalances in the body. Eastern modalities of body care provide a preventative approach to improving and maintaining immune and digestive system functions, as well. Certain diseases, such as cancer, may require more aggressive treatment, including chemotherapy, and Eastern approaches alone may not be sufficient to treat the disease. Certain skin care regimens, supplements, and alternative treatments may interact with prescription drugs, leading to unwanted side effects. Therefore, A person should always speak with their primary care physician first, regardless of whether they are considering Western and/or Eastern Integration.
In conclusion, because Eastern modalities deal with your overall health-if you seek out a holistic minded bodyworker- integrating your holistic health provider alongside your Primary Physician is a well rounded approach in aiming to promote less acute conditions before the onset of chronic dis-ease. Eliminating pain before it systematically roots in your body, increasing energy, restoring muscular function, and balancing stagnancy in the energy field of the body are all great benefits to integrating Eastern inspired modalities. As a practitioner of Integrative and Lifestyle Wellness, I promote what is best for the patient case as presented and listen closely to the goals of my client in the moment of consideration.
