East Meets West: Thai Yoga Massage

Updated: Aug 8, 2023

Have you ever been feeling down and out of sorts? Add to that feeling, the feeling that you just need to be able to breath deeper and the need to STRETCH OUT. Have your moods constantly varied from the happiness of an upbeat day to depression on a underneath-the weather one without any warning signs or cause for consideration other than "it's just not happy"? Wellness Rituals is here! We offer sessions with our licensed therapist who specialize in holistic therapies such as massage therapy, skin care treatments, and energy work.

One of Lauren's favorite modalities to perform is Thai Yoga and Swe-Thai Massage. When you walk into a treatment session, we start by fully cleansing and energizing your physical body with rhythmic breathwork. We then work on removing any energetic blockages that might be present and address perceived delicate energetic bodies like emotions and thoughts (which can often linger even after something has been resolved). Every person's story is unique so treatments vary depending what needs addressing at this point.

You can expect a one on one treatment session with Lauren where she will be able to provide you education about what we do, how it's done and some suggestions for things that may help out at home. We usually keep clothes on throughout most of the time during a Thai massage, but there might come times when being undressed is more comfortable or necessary when done table top for example. When performed on the Thai Yoga Mat, please come prepared by wearing stretchy loose athletic type of clothing. Bring socks, because you could get cold during the session due to circulation and visceral body work done.

Thai massage is a traditional therapy combining acupressure, Indian Ayurvedic principles and assisted yoga postures. The idea of Sen-lines or energy lines was first used as "Thai Yoga Massage", in other words, an ancient therapy that combines compression, acupressure and passive stretching to increase the range of motion in your joints. This can also improve posture as well help with back pain! Thai massages are therapeutic but shouldn't hurt you - if it does then tell your therapist to adjust their pressure at any time throughout the session. At first most clients will ask "how do I feel?" And this question should answer itself through honest communication between both parties involved during a session.

This is an effective massage modality for people with chronic pain, discomfort, or limited range of motion to manage and improve their conditions. The physical pressure applied by Thai massages can relieve some of this discomfort, but it's important not practice these techniques while you're recovering from surgery because they could cause further injury and even complications in certain medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease (high blood pressure), osteoporosis (weak bone strength) , neurological diseases affecting the spine. Also, hip and knee replacements pose difficulty to experience the full benefits that Thai Yoga massage has to offer.

Because of the nature of this massage, you should be left feeling less stressed but also energized. This is great for athletes, and or clients who generally want to improve their awareness of the body and the limitations that can be overcome through breathwork, stretching, compressions, and natural body alignments. You will naturally receive better blood flow, range of motion, and oxygen to the brain which handles all the physical and mental faculties of the body. This can even by proxy improve mental function and moods.

Thai massage is more than just a therapeutic treatment for muscle tension and pain. It also has elements of energy work, which involves applying pressure to specific points on the body in order open channels that will improve blood flow throughout your whole system!
